The Proms concerts are a British tradition going back to the late 1800's. The main BBC Prom season is from July to September. They were originally created to educate people about classical music and make concerts accessible in an informal environment.
Today, Proms concerts are held at many castles, abbeys and are part of multi-day festivals."Prommers" attending the concerts take their picnics and some may dress in festive costumes, holding their flags ready to wave them and cheer during the patriotic finale, which usually includes fireworks and singing along to; The Land of Hope and Glory, Jerusalem, Rule,Britannia (included in the Fantasia of British Sea Songs) and more.
Jonathan has performed in quite a few Proms thus far and even has his Union Jack cape to wear for the finales.
Was totally stunned as I always am by his incredible live performances - but this time especially as I heard Che Gelida Manina for the first time live - and sincerely hope that the Maestro will seriously consider singing this role in La Boheme some day! He would be a great loss to opera if he does not!
