It is 6 years tonight (UK time) that Jonathan stepped out onto the stage of Britain’s Got Talent, life changed not just for Jonathan but for his fantoines too. How has Jonathan impacted on your life?
I was completely blown away by that beautiful voice on BGT, the courage it took to step out on that stage is greatly admired, the talent, the gift of his voice, I am happy for his success. Johnathan you deserve it and , I thank you for sharing such a beautiful sound with all of us. We are blessed to hear you in our lifetime.
My mother was a concert violinist and as I grew up I enjoyed music of all kinds including classical. Throughout college, marriage and settling into the hectic routine of life music was a part of it all. Life however became more complicated, time grew shorter and I found I listened less. Yet, after stressful or tiresome days Pavarotti's voice could still renew my energy and passion for living, it could relax me and bring peace. After he passed I couldn't find another artist or group who could move me in that way until Jonathan stepped on the stage on Britain's Got Talent. His voice is unparalleled and second to none. I hadn't realized until then how very much I've missed the music. As I watched him sing at 17 years old I was thanking him for bringing it back to me. On that day I was in awe and will be a fan of his for life.
I will never forget the first time I saw Jonathan on GBT - I was in awe of this young man. as I think we all were...he has grown in the last 6 years and his voice matured but to me, it will always be that shy young man who I first saw on GBT.
Has it really been 6 years already? That is so hard to believe that it has been that long. I live in the United States, but I watch Britain's Got Talent on YouTube every year. The night Jonathan and Charlotte sang, I thought Jonathan was an absolutely amazing singer. Not only that, I was so impressed with how he would not continue in the competition by himself no matter what Simon said. What a a genuinely nice person! And they both sang beautifully together. I especially loved the second song they sang. I watched them sing all their songs on the show, and I truly thought they should have won. But, Jonathan actually did win. I mean, what a huge career he has now!! Since the end of the show, I've listened to his new songs as well as his BGT songs and wish he would come to Houston, Texas USA. How awesome to be able to see him in person. I've bought his CD's and waited patiently for the CD's to arrive in Houston! I am extremely happy that Jonathan continues to be so successful in his music career. I think he will just keep getting better and better as the years go on. I am so thankful to have found him on YouTube as I watched BGT Jonathan, may God grant you a long and successful career. It already is successful!!!!........One thing that I did do since watching Jonathan and Charlotte on BGT is this -- I belong to an online group that writes stories and poetry, and I wrote a poem about him and Charlotte on BGT. Here is the poem.
I’ve Heard Them Sing(based on a true story)
By Jan Dixon
They walked on the stage, a teen boy and girl,The large humble boy and the girl fair of face. The audience looked, all assuming the worst; They were shaking their heads all over the place.
“Why are you here?” the judge asked, as he stared. The girl said, “We want to share with you our song.We hope you’ll find pleasure in what we’ve prepared. We’re sure you will see that our voices are strong!”
The girl knew their voices together were good. The boy was much shyer, not quite so assured. For due to his size he’d been oft mocked and teased,A piece of him snatched by each cruelty endured.
The crowd squirmed and stared as the music began. The girl looked up into the boy’s anxious eyes,Then out from their lips came such glorious tones; The stunned crowd was quite overcome with surprise!
They were shaking their heads all over the place,But not for the same reasons they had before. The crowd showed approval with hearty applauseAs music, like eagles, continued to soar!
They came to the ending, the last note superb!“Wow! Wow!” The judge stood up and loudly exclaimed,“Unbelievable and outstandingly good!” A future star you’ll be with worldwide acclaim!
The boy and girl hugged, they could not hide their bliss. The response they received, they scarce could take in.A look of assurance, now on the boy’s face,And a mind-set of confidence soon would begin.
Their star is now growing, no words can describeThe joy and serenity their voices bring. The pleasure, the power that stirs in one’s heart,I know this is true, you see, I’ve heard them sing!
Like many others in the USA I did not find Jonathan until a couple of years after the BGT audition. I initially saw a video of a much younger Jonathan that intrigued me enough to research my way to that fateful BGT clip . I remembered the dark eyes and the long dark hair, the eloquent yet humble way he spoke ( I love English accents ). He was utterly beautiful as he resembled my middle child Roger. He'd already won me over without uttering a single note. We all know what happened next. Between the roaring crowd and the trembling hands it became obvious to everyone. Jonathan had a phenomenal voice coupled with a heart of gold and extreme courage -- a rare combination. As I followed him through posts and interviews he was always the same - Intelligent, articulate yet unassuming and genuine. And as he grew up before us, that voice did the impossible. It grew more powerful while maintaining that creamy youthful sound I love so much. What does this all mean for me today? It has changed the way I interact with people I see & meet everyday. Careful who you write off after a first impression. That quiet unassuming soul in the corner may be the brilliant, warm and funny friendship you've always wanted-- the one that saves you one day. Thank you Jonathan. I can't wait to meet you!
Jonathan Antoine's story and incredible voice has captured my heart forever. I grew up in the 1950s and 1960s with Italian relatives who revered Enrico Caruso, Mario Lanza, (recently saw the painted mural of him on a building in Philadelphia,PA) and Luciano Pavarotti. Jonathan is the caliber of that legendary class of tenors. I admire his calm, intelligent, eloquence, respectful demeanor and genuine love, kindness and appreciation for his fans..I wish him God's continued blessings and guidance on his musical journey! Love always and forever, from JoanM TheAntoineFan ...Croydon, PA near Philadelphia in the USA PS. The photo is of me in 2015, modeling my new "Tenore" t-shirt. Look who is "sitting" in the passenger seat of my "Jonathan-Mobile"...
Could never understand why all the greats Pavarotti -Lanza included never grabbed me as they did so many and then I heard a voice that had no comparison-classical music changed for me as this Rich Golden Voice brought to some of the best music in the world - Power depth joy love compassion musicality and the magic I had never experienced before. Pavarotti's quote encapsulates it 'Good Tenors come along every 10 years - Great Tenors come long once every hundred' and here he is - a young artist that will leave an enormous legacy to Classical Music! and it happened in my lifetime - forever grateful!
Jonathan has really had an impact on my life. I've always been a homebody. A friend from work send an email with a YouTube video attached. Not a YouTube person, I clicked & watched the video sent...I don't remember what it was & I wasn't impressed but when it was over, a box made up of smaller boxes popped up. In several of the little boxes was a cute guy and a girl with the box tagged BGT. I clicked on the little box and became an instant YouTube junkie watching all I could find of the young man, he was that good! After I discovered Jonathan, I was overwhelmed with the desire to give him support and encouragement. I saw on one of the YouTube videos that he was on social media so I looked him up. Thinking he would think I was crazy, I decide to post a quick note of support & go away...there is quite an age gap between us. After I posted, I received responses from some Fantoines welcoming me, then a message from Jonathan. The age gap was a non issue, talking to Jonathan wasn't like talking with a child. I was taken with his intelligence, language skills, and personality. I stayed around with newfound friends. It didn't take long til I knew I had to meet Jonathan. It took some planning with some Fantoines, a lot of new found nerve & I was ready to go...almost...the passport people lost my application so it didn't happen. After about 3 months, my 1st ever passport arrived. Later came notice of Classical Spectacular with Jonathan performing. Again I made plans with Fantoine friends but this time I had passport in hand. With help from Fantoines I managed to make reservations for hotel & my 1st ever flight/1st ever trip out of the US. I took off to London never having met any of the people I was to meet there. We saw the show twice and following the second show I finally got to meet Jonathan, Tracy and Charlotte...I was more than a bit overjoyed. Since then, I've been to see him at Gawsworth Hall twice. Somewhere along the line, Jonathan started using Twitter and encouraged us to follow along...more new social media for me to attempt. Jonathan has been my motivation to step out to do more, different things I had never before considered.
Like anyone with EARS I was blown away when I heard Jonathan’s voice that first time on BGT. His story was compelling but that voice! Nobody but Pavarotti ever sang like that ! However the one thing that made me a fan for life was when Simon suggested he drop Charlotte ( meanie!) and Jonathan -consummate gentleman that he is -said NO! You won my heart when you stood up to that bully Jonathan!💖 after being bullied your whole life, and singing in front of a huge crowd while the microphone shook in your hand with nerves, you had the strength to stand up to Simon. That’s character my lad and it can’t be taught or bought ( however kudos to YOUR MOM because we all know she nurtured it in you 💖)
Oh Jonathan, i would have to write a book on how you impacted our lives. I will tell you how i discovered you . I was in bed sick 2014 and i was on computer watching vids, i have never ever watched a talent show, dont believe in them, but i have heard of Simon Cowell so i thought ok lets watch BGT, well i thought he was mean and only watched 2 clips and and was ready to shut it off but then you came on ,your first time, it was already 2 yeats into your career when i found you . Well first i thought ,oh he looks like my Jake and then i heard your story and you were so scared, also just like my Jake, so you went on stage and by the 5 th note i started crying ,anyone that knows me knows i do almost anything from keeping not to cry, and i called Gene, Hubby, and i said " Pavarotti just came back to us thru this boys voice" , i grew up listening to Pavarotti, Carerras and Domingo every sunday at my Grandmas house. Anyway , it your VOICE thats gived me peace and joy and for my Jake, although he isnt into Music at all, i saved some of your very insperational interviews and whenever he gets anxious ,discouraged he still listenens to your interviews and it helps him thru the day . He know goes to University ,over 3 hours away from us, and he is doing ok and listenens to your interviews ALOT. So you see Jonathan, It is your phenomenal awesome VOICE, your courage and your sweeet and kind heart and soul. No wonder thousands and thousand adore you and many more, Millions, will still "discover" you as i did , 2 years after your BGT deput . See you in September and i hope i can thank you personally . Love and Peace
As I watched Jonathan on that Saturday night, he reminded me so much of my son, who’s also called Jonathan. Although he was a little like him in appearance, being similar builds and both having beautiful curly hair. it was more the way he held himself that reminded me of Jon when he was younger. The long curls covering his lovely face, oversized baggy T shirt and sleeves pulled over his hands. When my Jon tried to fit in at school, he came to find out that children are cruel, he wasn’t tall enough, his hair was different, he also wasn’t very athletic either, so never got chosen for teams, apart from swimming. He’d persevered with this away from school until he became really good at it and loved it... he actually swam like a fish and he eventually had his day when it came to swimming lessons in year 6. It seemed all those athletic tall boys who teased him couldn’t actually swim, so while they were down at the shallow end with armbands on, Jon was diving in and doing tumble turns down at the deep end.
You see every one has their day, and listening to Jonathan’s heartfelt story on BGT had me in tears, I desperately wanted this to be his day and so I was truly willing him to be good and as he walked across that stage I was sat on the edge of my seat ... then he started to sing with that most beautiful magnificent voice, that was it, I had tears tumbling down my cheeks and the biggest ever smile on my face ... the rest as they say is history, as for my Jon, well he went on to college and university where as well as his BA honours degree in photography, he found out what real friends were, friends who like you for who you are and not what you look like.
Jonathan truly is an incredible inspiration to all and is happy to share his story to help others in similar situations. Jonathan has also been my inspiration too, as has his lovely mum. I always have them both in the back of my mind giving me courage and spurring me on, as like many others suffering from anxiety I can get a little panicky when out of my comfort zone, but the need to do things, especially getting to see Jonathan perform live, is very strong and so along with my fabulous forever Fantoine buddies, we are able to tackle it together. It really is amazing what you can do if you put your mind to it ... especially when you do it together with wonderful friends.
I’ve even travelled long distances to concerts a few times now on my own too and have felt so incredibly proud of myself on arrival, but you’re never alone when you arrive at Jonathan’s concerts, because we are like one big incredibly happy family all brought together by this incredibly special young man. Thank you Jonathan, for everything, but most of all for being you. Xx
